Profile

Entomologist with B.S. degree in agronomy, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in entomology, >30 years of experience in entomology, insect pathology and microbial control, urban entomology, research, extension and education. Experienced in coordination of large research/demonstration programs in integrated management of pests, commercial-scale production of fungi, basic and applied research on insect control. Strong communication skills and ability to effectively interact with researchers, stakeholders and general public, both in collaborative research projects and in outreach programs.

Recent Accomplishments

  • 109 peer-reviewed publications, 22 book chapters, and 1 book.
  • 24 patents on control of insect pests.
  • Discovery of 3 new fire ant diseases in Florida.
  • Development of mosquito control devices using polymer-imbedded insecticide and texturized formulation.
  • Development of filth fly control device using color panels and insecticide-treated cords.
  • Coordination of the Deployed War-Fighter Protection (DWFP) research program, a US Department of Defense-sponsored USDA-ARS research project (approx. US$ 1.5 million/year).
  • Coordination of USDA areawide project on integrated management of fire ants (approx. US$ 1 million/year), and development of educational materials on fire ant biological control.
  • 2006 USDA-ARS Technology Transfer Award for fire ant areawide project.
  • 2006 Federal Laboratory Consortium Southeast Region Honorable Mention for Excellence in Technology Transfer.
